Churches are meant to be peaceful, but L.A.’s leading Catholic cathedral doubles as being a tourist end. During the time that is right belated afternoon on a midweek time — you will find less crowds and some soothing spots to flee the clatter of downtown.
In the cathedral’s courtyard, past a sizable fountain, is a little meditation yard by having a small circular pool, a location to mirror and shut the downtown din out. The glass wall decorated with etched angels floating above the freeway seems almost soundproof, reducing the traffic below to white noise at the far side of the courtyard. Architect Josй Rafael Moneo incorporated the roadway into their design, considering “the Hollywood Freeway as Los Angeles’ river of transport, the bond of individuals to every other,” in accordance with the cathedral’s web site.
